Watches and Wonders 2023

The biggest surprise of Watches and Wonders 2023 that no-one saw coming…

In what can only be described as an emotional response to the turmoil our world has been in over the last 3 years, Rolex has produced a watch promoting positivity – ‘Time Stamped with Emotion’.

With these versions of the Day-Date 36, Rolex brings an unexpected creative twist to one of its iconic models. By displaying a new emotion each day, the watch brings an element of spontaneity into the wearers’ daily life and allows them to invest the reading of time with their changing mood.

This is rather unusually a Rolex Day-Date with neither a Day nor a Date! Instead of showing the day of the week at the top, one of seven motivational keywords is displayed. These are: ‘Happy’, ‘Eternity’, ‘Gratitude’, ‘Peace’, ‘Faith’, ‘Love’ and ‘Hope’. In addition, to accompany each of these inspirational keywords, one of 31 exclusive emojis are displayed in place of the date.

Available at 36mm in yellow, white or Everose gold, with a colourful jigsaw enamel dial. Each piece of the jigsaw is designed to represent one of the key moments in life. The dial is then further adorned with a selection of 10 baguette-cut sapphires in six different hues. Inside, is the Rolex calibre 3255 providing 70 hours of power reserve and certified to −2 /+2 seconds per day.

This is a bold and interesting move from a company who are traditionally conservative in their approach to design favouring evolution over revolution. We utterly applaud Rolex’s sentiment of bringing positivity into the world and love the creative inspiration, although this is clearly not going to suit everyone’s tastes and will come at quite a price. We look forward to seeing one in the wild!
